Natural wool – warmth and coziness
Natural wool always adds coziness to the image. This year, already in September, the weather strongly advises you to wrap yourself in your favorite cardigan. If this is not yet in your wardrobe and you are going to buy or tie it yourself, our article will be useful, so add it to your favorites.
The main supplier of wool fibers is the sheep. In addition to it, fine wool is obtained from other animals: Kashmiri and Angora goats, rabbits, llamas, alpacas and camels. The labels 100% Wolle, Reine Wolle or simply Wolle (wool) used by manufacturers of woolen fabrics refer to wool of low quality or regenerated wool, which is made from wool waste. The mark Schurwolle (natural wool) is used only if the wool is obtained from the shearing of healthy live animals and contains no more than 7% extraneous fibers. Reine Schurwolle brand wool contains no more than 0.3% impurities. Only such high-quality wool receives a quality mark, which indicates that it has passed the control of the International Wool Secretariat.
Properties: woolen fabrics do not get dirty and almost do not wrinkle. It is not unusual for woolen clothes to hang a little in a damp room to smooth out crumpled folds and remove the smell of sweat, food and smoke. The surface of the wool fabric repels water droplets, but absorbs up to 40% of moisture in the form of steam; the wool dries slowly. Wool retains heat well and has a tendency to pile up, which enhances its heat-insulating properties and makes it impermeable.
Handling: wool should only be washed by hand using detergents for washing fine or woolen fabrics. The water temperature during washing should not exceed 30 °C. Washing in a large amount of water, woolen products are carefully wrung out, in no case are they rubbed or twisted. Wool also does not like long soaking. Treated wool can be machine washed at 30 °C in the mode for wool. Wool products are not spun in a centrifuge, but carefully rolled by hand in a terry towel. Clothes are not hung, but laid out for drying. In no case should you dry woolen clothes in a dryer, in the sun or on radiators.
Blazers, trousers, skirts made of woolen fabrics do not tolerate washing well, it is better not to wash them, but to give them to dry cleaning. Wool is ironed with an iron, setting the thermostat to the “wool” position, with moistening or through a damp cloth.
